I bet you didn't know that these creatures were truly as big as they are. The art box on cards is so small you can easily miss things that look like bushes, but are actually trees! These are some of my favorite creatures that will make you look twice the next time you open your next pack.
The Fleet Swallower is a colossal fish, its name is not an exaggeration, as it can swallow entire fleets of ships. The Fleet Swallower's stomach is incredibly large and elastic, allowing it to consume prey much larger than itself. Timba Smits' anatomical diagram of the Fleet Swallower shows the fish's stomach in great detail, revealing its ability to hold multiple ships. Aside from its ‘terrifying teeth’ its tail can create Maelstroms! The Fleet Swallower is a truly terrifying creature, and its size and power make it a formidable opponent.
Kroxa, the Legendary Elder Giant, is a truly massive creature. Two people standing against the stone wall of the temple are dwarfed by him, only reaching up to his ankle! Assuming that the taller of the two people is about 6 feet tall, and that Kroxa's body proportions are similar to a human's, that would make him around 96 feet tall! It's no surprise that Kroxa is so feared and respected throughout the land. His sheer size is enough to intimidate even the bravest of warriors, and his strength and power are legendary. Kroxa is a force to be reckoned with, and anyone who crosses him does so at their own peril.
Its immense size surpasses even the highest peaks, casting an intimidating shadow upon the land. What truly captivates the eye is the astonishing display of power. With a single swipe of its colossal claws, the Tyrant effortlessly demolishes an entire air warship. The magnitude of the destruction is evident as one examines the intricate details of the card. The little gray figure, engulfed in flames, reveals itself to be no ordinary blaze, but the remnants of a massive warship, with multiple deck areas where the crew once roamed. It becomes clear that caution is the only rational response. In the presence of such an overwhelming force, it is wise for people to heed the warning and keep their distance from this perilous realm. For when dragons reach such astounding proportions, the battle between their immense power and the vulnerability of humanity becomes a stark and undeniable reality.
The creature is not simply trampling through bushes; it is destroying an entire forest. At first glance, it appears to be a rhinoceros-sized creature crashing through the underbrush. It is possible that loggers follow this creature and take advantage of the trees that have been uprooted with little effort. This would be a very efficient way to clear a forest for logging purposes. However, it is also possible that the creature is simply destroying the forest for its own reasons, such as to create a clearing for a new home or to find food.
Nestled within the foreboding Kher Ridge mountain range lies a realm shrouded in fear and trepidation. The very thought of exploring this perilous landscape evokes a sense of unease, for within its towering peaks dwell creatures of unimaginable might and ferocity. Here, dragons roam, their colossal forms capable of obliterating warships with astonishing ease. The sky itself becomes a battleground as these magnificent beasts unleash their devastating power.
Yet, the dangers that lurk in the skies are not limited to dragons alone. The vastness of the Kher Ridge harbors other fearsome creatures, such as the legendary Roc. Like a myth come to life, these avian behemoths soar through the clouds with wings spanning wide. They possess the strength to carry humans, much like an eagle effortlessly snatching up a rabbit. But in this case, the prey they clutch is not a small rodent, but a fully grown human, a fact that sends shivers down the spines of those who dare to envision such a macabre scene.
Upon closer inspection of the Roc's impending feast, the true horror becomes apparent. What might have initially seemed like a small creature in its grasp reveals itself to be an entire human being, helpless and doomed. The magnitude of this realization is nothing short of bone-chilling, reminding all who witness it of the unforgiving nature of this realm.
Thus, the Kher Ridge mountain range stands as a testament to the terrors that lie beyond the boundaries of human civilization. It serves as a stark reminder that in this untamed land, where dragons reign and colossal birds prey upon humans, venturing into the unknown comes at a grave price. Only the bravest souls would dare to set foot in this foreboding territory, where the line between predator and prey blurs, and survival becomes a matter of cunning, strength, and sheer luck.
Cromat is a truly massive creature. It is easily ten times the size of a polar bear, and its long, segmented body is covered in odd bulbous pores and almost transparent wings. Cromat is a powerful predator, and it is said that it can easily take down a herd of reindeer in a single attack. It is also an intelligent creature, and it is known to use its size and strength to its advantage in hunting.
As for how Cromat sustains its massive body, it is thought that it eats a variety of animals, including polar bears, reindeer, and even whales. It is also thought that Cromat may be able to hibernate for long periods of time, which would help it to conserve energy.
Whatever the case may be, Cromat is a truly impressive creature, and it is one of the most dangerous animals in the world.
(This is all my personal cannon, I do not speak for WotC’s ideas of Cromats diet and survival habits.)
I agree, it's always fun to see what artists have hidden away in their artwork. It can be anything from small details that add to the story of the card to hidden messages or references.
I could go on and on about my favorite cards with hidden details, but I'll stop there for now. I hope you enjoy looking for hidden details in the artwork of your favorite cards as much as I do!
